Don't go outside, little one.
You could fall, you could cry,
You could hurt, you could die.
You'll be chased by the things
that go bump in the night.
Lock the doors, draw the blinds.
They are hiding behind.
You'll be poisoned and stung,
You'll be hanged, you'll be hung.
Keep the cabinets shut,
And stay down from the chairs.
The door wants to catch
little thumbs unawares.
There are beggars and thieves,
There are snakes, there are bees,
There are bites and disease.
I know just how you feel.
You can't not be afraid
when the Boogeyman's real.
With so much to fear out there, I wonder how many of today's children turn to that very Boogeyman for comfort.

It reminds me of an article I read recently, which talked about the difference in percieved safety and actual safety, and how some risks are blown way out of proportion. The example it gave was that less than 100 children are abducted by strangers in the entire US each year, yet most parents fear it enough to not allow their children to play outside. The probability of their fear coming true is so low that it shouldn't be a factor in how they raise their kids, but it is.
